Legislative Session Ends in Success, 2016 Election Cycle Begins

The 84th Regular Legislative Session has ended, and we had good results for The University on several issues:

  • Under the new leadership team of Gov. Abbott, Lt. Gov. Patrick and Speaker Straus, funding for UT Austin increased by 4.5 percent.
  • UT Austin received funding for campus improvements; House Bill 100 contained $75 million for the renovation of Welch Hall.
  • The Texas Legislature also passed legislation increasing funding for research at UT Austin.

The Texas Exes has more analysis at: http://texasexes.org/involved/weeklyupdates.aspx

With these increases in funding, The University can continue to excel as “a university of the first class” as required by the Texas Constitution.

We are now moving into the election season which is the most important time for Friends of The University PAC. Our current focus is on raising money to support the campaigns of elected officials who understand the importance of maintaining excellence at UT Austin.

Please make a secure online donation to Friends of The University PAC at: http://www.friendsoftheuniversity.com/donate2/. Please also send this link to fellow Texas Exes and encourage them to donate as well.

The Friends of The University PAC Board will meet soon to discuss fundraising activities and begin formulating a comprehensive plan for contributing to candidates. We will continue to update you as the 2016 election cycle progresses.

Thanks for your support and Forever Hook ‘em!
